Florence Muindi

  Florence Muindi, MD, MPH
  Founding President / CEO


Dr. Muindi is considered a thought leader in the ministry of community development. A native to Kenya, Dr. Muindi is a medical doctor by training and has pioneered LIA’s transformational development model. Since the beginning, Dr. Muindi has played an integral role in not only establishing a proven model and track record for LIA but also in laying the foundation for implementation throughout Africa and the majority world.

She is a graduate of University Of Nairobi Medical School (1989). Additionally, Dr. Muindi received training in Switzerland and Belgium in specialized public health interventions and holds a diploma in Urban Poor Theology from Fuller Seminary. She regularly speaks publicly about community development through the local church, empowerment of the vulnerable and transformational transformation.

She is married to Festus with two grown sons. Above all, Dr. Muindi is a servant and follower of Christ.

Dr. Girma Begashaw  

  Dr. Girma Begashaw 
  Chief Operations Officer


Dr. Begashaw has over 35 years of work experience with International Non-Governmental organizations (NGOs), serving in senior leadership, organizational development and technical training roles. With a technical background in Civil Engineering, Dr. Begashaw also holds a Masters and Doctorate degree in Leadership Development.

 He is a married, a proud grandfather and currently lives in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.


Carley Buckingham



Carley Buckingham, MBA
Executive Director, US

Carley Buckingham first encountered LIA through short-term missions engagements. She joined the US team with a rich administrative background in accounting, finance, and human resource. The organizations she served include Papa John’s International as an analyst and tax accountant, Robert Half International as an executive recruiter and directing the People Department (Human Resource Team) at Southeast Christian Church.

Her skills in strategic planning, collaboration, and operational transition equip her well to serve our team well.

Carley and her husband, Scott, live in Louisville, Kentucky.

 Collins Bonyo

Collins Bonyo, MBA, CPA
  Director of Finance & Administration


Collins oversees program finances for Life In Abundance and is responsible for the evaluation and improvement of risk management, control, and governance throughout the various countries and communities where LIA serves.

He holds an MBA in Strategic Management, and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K) and a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE). He is a member of ICPAK and the Institute of Certified Fraud Examiners, USA. He has over 10 years’ experience in the areas of Managerial Finance, Financial Accounting, Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk Management, and Strategic Planning & Management.

  James Gatere, CPA
  Director of Special Projects


James is responsible for the capital, administrative and human resource management for LIA activities and staff throughout Africa. Before joining LIA three years ago, he held many leadership positions with CARE International and Save the Children (UK) including Head of Human Resources and Organizational Development.

James is pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya and is a Certified Public Accountant. 

He, his wife and two children are native to Kenya.

  Yared Mekonen, MD
  Regional Director, Established Countries


Yared is one of LIA’s longest-standing employees, having worked on the team for more than 12 years. He currently oversees program implementation in the countries where LIA is well-established and replicating programs in new communities. Prior to serving in this capacity, Yared served as Country Director of LIA Ethiopia, where he helped pioneer some of LIA’s most successful initiatives.

Before joining LIA, Yared served in several leadership positions in Ethiopia, most recently as the medical director and physician at Debre Berhan Zonal Hospital.

He received his doctor of medicine from Jimma Institute of Health Sciences in Ethiopia.
